Welcome to Florida State College at Jacksonville’s living history page!
Today, we celebrate the first day of a new era in North Florida education as we begin our first academic year as Florida State College at Jacksonville. This transition will have a major impact on our community both academically and economically.
If you can’t make it to one of our campuses or centers, you can still join in our celebration. We will be posting videos and articles with students, faculty and administrators throughout the day. We would love to hear your comments on our Facebook page or Twitter.
If you’d like to contribute video or you have other questions or comments regarding our living history page, please contact Celine McArthur, Director of Communications and Community Relations.
“The new baccalaureate degree programs [at our new state college] will enhance the Jacksonville community and the state of Florida through quality higher education. I am grateful our students will have greater access to programs that strengthen Florida’s workforce for the high-tech, high-wage jobs that are so important to our state’s economy.” – Governor Charlie Crist
“FCCJ as we knew it has been important to our workforce and raising educational standards in our city. Now, with its expanded role and new name, we have even greater expectations for what the college will do to make Jacksonville better.” – Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton
“It will add immeasurably to the quality of life in Jacksonville, and help us be even more competitive in economic development.” – Wally Lee, Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce
