Transfer Services

3 + 1 Programs

If you would like to take as many of your bachelors degree courses at the low Florida State College tuition rate as possible, this type of agreement might be helpful to you.

A 3 + 1 agreement maximizes a student's time at Florida State College. Students who earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree can satisfy the first two years of coursework associated with the university's baccalaureate degree programs and will be recognized as having achieved junior status. Twelve to 30 additional credits are also completed at Florida State College, so that the student only completes the senior year (approximately 30 to 45 credit hours) at the university. The additional coursework can be completed at the Florida State College tuition rate. Typically the university accepts transfer credits for all of the coursework, up to a maximum of 90 semester hours toward fulfillment of university core requirements and toward the university degree requirements.

Please check with one of the following Florida State College advisors or counselors for more information about the 3 + 1 articulations in order to find out if this opportunity is best for you, and to discuss the specific steps for participation.

3 + 1 Articulation Points of Contact:
Florida State College Welcome Center, Lin White: (904) 646-2300
Florida State College Downtown Campus, Alan Nuenfeldt: (904) 633-8212
Florida State College Kent Campus, Kathleen Von Balson: (904) 381-3642
Florida State College North Campus, Barbara Jackson: (904) 766-6777 or Cheryl Black: (904) 766-6761
Florida State College South Campus, Walter Jones: (904) 646-2302
Florida State College Deerwood Center, Megan Shields: (904) 997-2600

If you are interested in transferring into a specific major, first select the major and then choose the college/university that offers your selected major. When you click on the major, you will find out some basic information about the requirements for transfer, including the coursework and major prerequisites. Clicking on the college/university will take you to the institution's web site.

If you would like to participate in the 3 + 1 program, please follow these steps:

  1. Meet with the designated Florida State College advisor or counselor (see list above of those working with 3 + 1 programs)
  2. Review the Transfer Advising Sheet(s) (see below);
  3. Consult the designated Florida State College advisor or counselor to determine when the 3 + 1 Program of Study Code (31XXX) and Major Code (6 digits) for the specific university should be added to your student record. (Generally we advise that this should be added as your primary program objective if you have already completed your associates degree. If you have not completed your associates degree yet, this should be added as your secondary program objective);
  4. Confirm the list of approved classes that the university would like you to take at Florida State College (if the university has specified a list of courses for your major, you should find a list of those courses at the links below, but we recommend that you confirm that list with an advisor from the partner university);
  5. 6. Apply to the 3 + 1 partner institution (see list below) in the specific 3 + 1 major (the B.S., B.A., or BAE indicated below). The student should indicate on the application that they are pursuing the 3 + 1 articulation between Florida State College and XX university; (if the student is applying to Nova Southeastern University, please contact Tami Beaty 904.245.8928 or tbeaty@nova.edu) at the local NSU student educational center to discuss the applications process and appropriate application timelines).
  6. After consulting with both university and your designated Florida State College advisor, start registering, paying, and enrolling for Florida State College classes. We recommend that you register 4-6 weeks prior to the start of the term at Florida State College. You are responsible for paying for the courses prior to Florida State College’s payment due dates.
  7. Send your transcript periodically to the university and contact your advisor there to make sure you are taking the correct courses each semester.

If you are seeking financial aid for the additional coursework, please check with one of the following Florida State College advisors or counselors for more information about the 3 + 1 articulation to discuss the specific steps for participation and possible financial aid options.

*Northcentral University does not offer standard Title IV financial aid. NCU offers students the option to participate in payment plans and assistance in seeking loans. Therefore students participating in the 3 + 1 program with Florida State College and NCU would be responsible for paying for the additional semester hours at Florida State College (beyond the associates degree).

Tips on transferring to a college without an articulation agreement

Florida State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) so many of Florida State College courses should transfer to colleges and universities across the United States. However, it is up to each individual school to decide what courses they will and won't accept, especially if you transfer to a school outside of the state of Florida. If you are interested in transferring to an institution that Florida State College does not have an articulation agreement with , the first step would be to contact that school. The Admissions or Registrar staff should be able to tell you about their transfer policy. They may ask to see a copy of Florida State College's course descriptions to get an idea about the course. Florida State College's catalog is available on-line so the school can easily reference course information. Once you complete the courses you would need to request an official copy of your Florida State College transcript.

If you are interested in a Florida State College Program of Study or a College/University major that is not listed, please contact a Florida State College advisor or counselor for more information.
