Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation

SACSCOC Reaffirmation

The College is undergoing the process to obtain reaffirmation of its regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The process for initial and continued accreditation involves a collective analysis and judgment by the institution's internal constituencies, an informed review by peers external to the institution, and a reasoned decision by the elected members of the Commission on Colleges. Accredited institutions periodically conduct internal reviews involving their administrative officers, staffs, faculties, students, trustees, and others appropriate to the process. The internal review allows an institution to consider its effectiveness in achieving its stated mission, its compliance with the Commission's accreditation requirements, its efforts in enhancing the quality of student learning and the quality of programs and services offered to its constituencies, and its success in accomplishing its mission. At the culmination of the internal review, peer evaluators representing the Commission apply their professional judgment through a preliminary assessment of the institution; elected Board Members make the final determination of an institution's compliance with the accreditation requirements.

Compliance Certification Report – March 2013

We are pleased to report that on Wednesday, March 13, Florida State College at Jacksonville mailed its completed Compliance Certificate to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in the first major step in the accreditation reaffirmation process.

The Compliance Certificate is a complex document of narratives written to each of the 90+ SACSCOC standards and supported by evidence. The College's completed Compliance Certificate ran over 600 pages, in addition to over 1,500 pieces of evidence.

More than 100 College employees contributed to the completion of the Compliance Certificate by writing the narratives, reviewing the narratives and/or helping to compile supporting evidence.

In the interest of transparency, an electronic copy of the Compliance Certificate is available for review.

Please note that there are 10 SACSCOC narratives in the College's Compliance Certification Report that contain examples of either personnel evaluation or student records (such as degree audits, transcripts, appeals). Although these have been redacted to protect the student's identity, the College has removed these 10 narratives and related evidence from this public posting, to further protect personal privacy. The 10 standards include:

  • 2.7.1 — Program Length (student records)
  • 3.2.10 — Administrator Evaluation (personnel records)
  • 3.4.4 — Acceptance of Academic Credit (student records)
  • 3.4.6 — Practices for Awarding Credit (student records)
  • 3.4.8 — Noncredit to Credit (student records)
  • 3.7.2 — Faculty Evaluation (personnel records)
  • 3.13.3 — Policy Compliance - Complaints (student)
  • 4.4 — Program Length (student records)
  • 4.5 — Student Complaints (student records)
  • 4.9 — Definition of Credit Hours (student records)

Additionally, printed copies of all of the narratives (including the narratives listed above) and a list of evidence in the Compliance Certification Report are available at each of the College's campuses and centers in the Library/Learning Commons on reserve in the Library Services area for in-house review and at each Campus President's Office.
