Florida Funeral Director (T.C.)

Are you interested in how to become a funeral director? The Florida Funeral Director Technical Certificate (T.C.) is designed to prepare students for employment as Funeral Directors, Morticians and Undertakers and or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations. All courses within this certificate program require a grade of at least a "C" or better. Students graduating from this program are eligible to take the Florida Laws and Rules Exam to practice as licensed Funeral Directors as approved by the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services. Students seeking more information on qualifications for a license, certificate or registration should contact the Florida Department of Health. Upon completion of this program, students must contact the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services for approval to take the state licensing exam.

Accreditation

This academic program is designed to meet specific state or professional needs. It is not accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). Students graduating from this program are not eligible to take any examination for which graduation from an ABFSE accredited program is required.

A minimum grade of "C" or better must be achieved in all professional core courses.

ADMISSION CRITERIA 

The following are minimum requirements for admission to the Funeral Services (ATC) Program:

  1. Acceptance to Florida State College at Jacksonville as a college credit student with all required admission documents received by the Registrar.
  2. Completion of any testing requirements and necessary follow-up.
  3. Applicant must have graduated with an associate degree or better from a regionally accredited college or university.
  4. At time of admission, overall GPA of 2.00 or higher.
